Vic: Lower residential speed limits part of new road deaths plan

MELBOURNE, Jan 19 AAP - Victorian motorists could be restricted to 50km/h on residential
streets as part of a bold plan to cut the state's road toll by 20 per cent in five years.

A police request for fixed speed cameras on Melbourne freeways is also being considered,
and the government hopes to table a bill in the autumn parliamentary session introducing
alcohol ignition interlock devices.

The breath-activated locks would be fitted to the cars of repeat drink drivers, disabling
