Fed: Liberal Party admits two other Qld FECs used GST scheme
CANBERRA, Aug 27 AAP - The Liberal Party today admitted there were three other GST
transactions in two Queensland branches which, like that uncovered in the Groom FEC, failed
to comply with the law.
The transactions occurred in the FECs of the Lilley and Leichhardt electorates, the
party's federal secretariat said today.
These three other transactions involved small amounts and were rectified by the Queensland
division, the party said.
They were revealed after a Tax Office review of the Queensland branch's taxation compliance
from October 1 2000 to March 31 2001, it said.
"The total shortfall of GST resulting from the initial treatment of these transactions was $105.
"This is not a `scam' as Labor has claimed," it said.
The secretariat said the four transactions in question were among some 700 made by
the Queensland division totalling some tens of thousands of dollars.
