QLD: Fourex opens new brewhouse

BRISBANE, Aug 29 AAP - The 122-year-old home of Queensland's famous XXXX beer moved
into the new century today with the opening of a $20 million brewhouse.

The state of the art facility, only the fourth brewhouse commissioned by Castlemaine
Perkins, will allow the company to keep pace with world-class production standards.

"The investment demonstrates our long term commitment to Queensland," managing director
Les Sayers said.

Each year Castlemaine Perkins produces in excess of 250 million litres of beer, enough
to fill 125 Sydney Olympic pools.

Present at today's opening ceremony by Premier Peter Beattie was former managing director
Frank Burnett who retired in February after 50 years with the company.

Mr Burnett, widely known as "Mr Fourex", was present at the commissioning of the company's
second brewhouse in 1950 and the third in 1975.
