Fed: Labor says military justice system lacks transparency
Labor says a leaked Defence memo instructing staff how to keep correspondence under
wraps highlights the lack of transparency in the military justice system.
Opposition defence spokesman CHRIS EVANS says a memo written by Colonel GARY HOGAN
shows Defence is trying to frustrate a Senate inquiry into military justice.
Colonel HOGAN's memo, leaked to media outlets, says all inquiry-related correspondence
should be headed - internal working document - so it can be exempt from tabling before
the committee under the Freedom of Information Act.
Senator EVANS has told the Nine Network there are serious problems with the military
justice system.
He says a Labor government would demand assurances from the Defence Intelligence Organisation
that it wouldn't skew its assessments to fit in with the prevailing political wind.
